Don, you probably did not read the book nor have seen the movie. "In retrospect" was basically about in retrospect, we should have supported this puppet instead of that puppet. "Fogs of War" was about how McNamara was the saint who tried to stop Johnson from doing all the bad things. If you read the pentagon papers, or the Ten Thousand Days War by McTear(?), a Canadian reporter, his role is pretty clear. But then again, I have no idea what I would feel like if I have committed acts of such magnitude. How would I be able to sleep at night? May be for McNamara, he chooses to rewrite history and managed to convince himself?
