The external "curtain" walls were in addition to the central core as an adjunct of safety precautions.
A "weld" where the steel columns were attached is stronger than the rest of the piece of steel with the welding rods they used.
I broke my tibia and fibula(compound fracture) in my left leg doing the horizontal high bar, and the place where my leg healed is the ONE place where my leg will never break again...per my doctor.
