Not every body does pot, Grainne. I never smoked it, not even once. I ingested some unknowingly by eating some spiked brownies, but I resented being deceived.

I think street drugs, pot included, are responsible for a lot more grief than you allude to.

Wow! Something we totally disagree about. Ionesco, there is medical evidence that brain development in teenagers stops when they start smoking marijuana. And then of course there is the issue of it being a gateway drug.

I don't really care if a bunch of adults smoke marijuana occasionally, but if you have children I think it is a really bad idea, because children model their parents' behavior. When Grainette was a child a lot of the fathers of her school mates smoked marijuana, and so at parties the menfolk would very subtly disappear into the far recesses of the backyard, etc. Not Mr. Grainne, however. Now these were very intelligent, well educated people who held responsible jobs. They were emphatically not burnouts. I was able to watch this situation unfold over a nine-year period, until everyone scattered to different high schools. The children whose fathers did drugs--these were highly achieving, gifted children--were the ones who started smoking marijuana. These were Grainnette's friends, who asked her if she wanted to try it in sixth grade!

I don't see how parents can use marijuana without their children noticing it. Either they see it being smoked at parties, notice their parents are acting funny (children are really sensitive to these things), or smell it on their clothing. I am totally opposed to parents using any drugs at all. I think it is completely incompatible with child rearing. Now I'm sorry if I sounded ranty, too. I just have a really strong opinion on this subject.
