Don't get me started. Somebody I'm very close to wrote and produced a stage play when she was in the sixth grade. When she got to high school, the teachers were mainstreaming kids with limited abilities, but they would not allow her to take upper level classes because she lacked the "prerequisites" that were totally boring to her. Finally, they said, "Well, if you're so unhappy, why don't you just drop out?" That did it. She dropped out, but not before getting her GED. She required special dispensation from the state superintendent of education to take the GED when she was thirteen years old, but she passed it well enough to get into college.

She became a teacher. A good one, able to control 45 kids in class if she has to. With only 25 kids, she can actually teach them something.
