I dont have any pain, I just hear a lot of people saying buy shiny metal so you can eat in the future and buy your ever increasingly costly medicine and fire up your energy sucking computer. We are surrounded by irrational people. You are right, I find a ton of people trading thier lives to smoke crack and shoot heroin - I find other people trading a large portion of thier lives to be the best timberman in new zealand. I find more still making AIBO dog robots and trading thier lives to have the highest score in Unreal Deathmatch like Mr. Chen. It doesn't bother me they choose this, their choice, but if technology and progress are gonna make the future more prosperous - if you are going to be a wise investor - you need to understand what technology and progress will do for people in the future to meet all their various wants and needs in aggregate. Remember greenie said the more prosperous we become - that will dictate our monetary exchange unit. In the far past - we were not so prosperous - wheat was traded - recent history a little more prosperous - gold was traded - in the future it may change again - but mogambo and puplava are convinced otherwise. To have gold be the monetary exchange unit or wheat - we must live in a society like in the past where those were the valued units. I don't see me and you going back to living in caves Elroy - I see me and you getting close to the Jetsons - not Clan of the cave bear. So be extension - as we move away from the past and environments of the past - we will move away from exchange units of the past - you and I don't trade wheat back and forth and we don't trade gold back and forth either. First off there may be a memory chip we can upload into our mind of the person who does get pfieffer or portman like that movie dreamscape, there may be a DNA clone made of them like that movie AI, there may be an adroid made of them like that movie westworld, all three would satiate the desire of the aggregate geek and would change the value that we place on any one pfieffer or portman. Back in history if you wanted to hear bach - you had to be a rich king that commissioned some work and he would play it for you and some close friends - today you and I can trade bach or beethoven over p2p networks for free. Technology changed to adapt to the wants and needs of billions of people, but I am to believe puplava when he tells me buy shiny metal because man can't figure out a way to overcome trading back and forth shiny metal - how silly silly. So where your mother says be grateful not everyone likes what we do, I say - hope that everyone WANTS what you do - because 12 billion putting demand on something will create research and technology in that thing and make it available for you, but if only you and your mother want that 1 thing, and you currently cant get it, there probably won't be a lot of research or progress to supply that one thing and you will do without forever.
