Walt Kelly created a Pogo cartoon for the first Earth Day that was captioned, "we have met the enemy, and they are us!" It's been downhill since then, I'm afraid. The greatest threat to American democracy is.... the American public. Indifferent to democracy, intolerant of intellectualism,yet perfectly tolerant of the lies of their leaders, positively charged-up with angry racism and xenophobia, and all too willing to be the hapless victims of disreputable carny barkers like the Cheerleader-In-Chief. What this nation is suffering from, more than anything, is a plague of locust-like trailer-trash Republicans. I don't blame George Bush for being a reptile, it's the nature of elite playboys to be arrogant a$$holes. But I do blame the American people for having such high regard for such low lifeforms.
