Where'd the "someone" come from? There's no external "someone" in the SS scenario. We, through our representatives, changed our mind. We decided to do something else with our limited resources rather than give it to old people.

If they return the money, then they just borrowed the money.

If they don't return it, they then in effect stole the money.

I don't disagree with that. I think it was wrong to fake folks out as they did. Only trying to point out with my envelope example that the borrowers or thieves, whichever it turns out to me, are us. And that asserting that new tax money or new debt will not be required until 205X is a hoax because, while there may be a promise, there is no money for SS benefits starting really soon.
