Novellus, ADE, ATMI See Notable Short Position Changes
05.25.05, 4:27 PM ET

Adams Harkness said the average open short position in its coverage of the advanced semiconductor industry remained unchanged month-over-month in May. "The days to cover for the group also stayed flat at 5.1 days," the research firm said. Notable changes were in names such as Novellus Systems (nasdaq: NVLS - news - people ), where shares short were down 26% month-over-month. Elsewhere, ADE (nasdaq: ADEX - news - people ) and ATMI (nasdaq: ATMI - news - people ) experienced increases in shares short of 98% and 50%, respectively. The research firm maintained "buy" ratings on Novellus and ADE, and a "strong buy" rating on ATMI. Among the capex-sensitive names, Adams Harkness continues to highlight Ultratech (nasdaq: UTEK - news - people ), "as we believe it is likely to be one of the very few companies that will still see a stronger second half." The research firm said it doesn't recommend clients chase these stocks at current levels given that they are currently closer to the high end of their trading range.
