Jerry Garcia's spirit lives on powerfully. And the spirit of Jerry and the Dead comes from the period between 1962 and 1972 when the psychedelic revolution was born, blasted off, then hit a wall. This revolution was caused by rebellion against the prudish, dishonest conservative 50's (where the rightwing wants us to return to), the JFK assasination, Neal Cassady and the Beats and the CIA giving LSD to Ken Kesey and Timothy Leary. But it wasn't really about drugs, they were just the fuel. It was about raising consciousness, freedom of expresion and lifestyle, exploration beyond the old limitations and love. Jerry was also a great musical artist, one of the finest of the 20th century, especially in tandem with Robert Hunter.
