I think a lot of Democrats are deeply disappointed with the direction they think America is headed in. For a compassionate, liberal person, it is personally painful to see how the conservative Republican majority wants America to be. The two sets of values are so far apart they are very difficult to reconcile. Unnecessary deaths in unnecessary wars, hatred of America abroad, lack of tolerance in general, lack of concern for the middle classes, dismantling environmental protections, increased suffering of the poor and hungry--these are all things that are very hard to watch right now for most Democrats. I think they do love their country, but want it to be a different way, and are wondering if the move to the right and the influence of religious conservatives is permanent. A country can be ruined pretty easily and fast. In the eyes of many Democrats, that is what they are watching. If they truly hated America, they wouldn't care. It might be fairer to say they hate what they see going on in America.

You may not understand loving something imperfect. My adoptive mother was clinically mentally ill, yet I loved her. My adoptive father was an alcoholic, yet I loved him. There are HUGE things I would have changed about my parents, yet I loved them. There are HUGE things I would change about my country, yet I love it. IMO that is the way really love is. But we all have different ideas of love. Some people choose to idealize the things they love- and that's fine, but it is not the ONLY way to love something, nor is it necessarily the healthiest.
