To the best of my knowledge sale of pornography is not legal in any state other than Canberra ACT. Pornography is legal to possess in all states just so long as it was not purchased in-state. This applies to videos, DVD, and print.

I don't favor your chances for successful delivery of pornography from other nations, either through a courier service or Australia Post, whether X-rated or NVE-rated. Receipt of NVE materials will attract legal penalties.

As this review on Wikipedia mentions, although sale of pornography is not legal in Victoria, it is sold openly in certain mafia run stores in the state of Victoria. This is something under the purview of Christine Nixon, Chief Police Commissioner for organized crime, and QC Tony Fitzgerald who are currently dealing with the entire package as one - with newly enhanced powers. The recent series of gang shootings in Melbourne over the past two years have significantly reduced the number of persons to investigate.

Although I'm sure this Wikipedia article is not the final word on the subject, it accurately portrays the situation as I am aware of it.

As has been in the news during the past few years, the Australian Broadcast Authority with Telstra has issued take down notices of all commercial pornography websites hosted in Australia since the passage of the Broadcast Services Agreement of 2000. This has not been applied to individual prostitutes or other individuals who choose to post photographs of themselves on their website.

Has this stimulated Australia's domestic porn industry?
