"so you are saying that individual investors are
irrelevant in the scheme of market dynamics"

Certainly not at this level of participation. Everybody must be off flipping homes. Or the Small Investor Lockout Act (daytrading rules) has forced many individual investors to go away.

But what I am more importantly saying is that natural human difference of opinion DOES NOT exist any longer. The MarkIt is determined by computer algorithm trading. All the algorithms essentially use the exact same variables, look for the exact same setups, use the exact same resistance and support points, delta hedge to the exact same parameters, etc. Group think taken to a computer precision. Thus you get zero movement intraday. Zero volatility. And Millions of shares flipped a day, back and forth and back again, between the computers for fractions of pennies net.

The guys I know who trade for the banks and institutions do far more program monitoring than actual physical trading.
