RTS,

At what point do you look at that chart and say that there is an uptrend, albeit a modest one? I see 10.26, 11.25, and then 14.33 as successive lows and yet no word on making higher lows or upward trend.

One of the reasons I don't understand TA.

RTS- I agree with some of your analysis... I see where we
disagree on stock price trend movement... I'm looking at the
overall mean trend line over the 5 year timeframe. Are you
looking at the intermediate interval monthly mean?
IMO, the outlook for the economy is directly related to when
the Fed takes a hands off approach to interest rate changes.
At that point the economy and markets will rally a bit and
then stabilize until the economic data shows improvement. The
economy won't really take off until the Fed starts easing
interest rates again, which is a stimulating effect for the
economy, IMO. As long as the Fed is on inflation watch and
raising rates the economy and markets just idle along. As
long as other investments, like real estate, offer higher
returns with less risk there is no compelling reason for
investors to speculate in stocks until they represent excellent
valuations and very low entry cost. That is the risk vs.
reward ratio and is supported by favorable tax incentives for
investing in real estate.
