Brian, I believe that if you look at all of the various
product lines and the sheer quantity of chips that INTC
produces you will better understand the correlation. At one
point CPU's and Co-processors were probably 95% of Intel's
manufacturing focus and they had nearly non-existant
competition while controlling 90%+ of their market niche.
Now they have multiple profitable product lines and many
more factories with products like NAND, wireless, etc., and
competitors are slowly nibbling away at INTC's market share
in all areas with comparable and less expensive products.
The point being that INTC is no longer totally dependent on
a limited product mix.
