If you had to vote for either John Kerry or George W. Bush right now who would you vote for? No big deal in the scheme of life?

I'm sure you're even more concerned about the massive increase in the National Debt - close to $650 Billion over the last 12 months.

That is more than the projected shortfall of SS for the entire decade of the 2020's! Wow!

What should we fix first? Something that is hemorrhaging
now, or a potential problem starting in 20 years (or 13 years by your way of looking at the problem).

If I had an executive that said fix the future problem first, I'd fire them. In business you always fix the larger, more immediate problem first.

If you are serious about fiscal issues (and it seems like you are) I suggest advocating dropping the SS debate until the General Fund deficit is fixed. I'm surprised EVERYONE doesn't agree with this approach - especially fiscally prudent Republicans (like me).

The problem is you keep perseverating on one piece of information when a thousand others show it to be fallacious.

So, let me ask you: What exactly is Bush's plan. How exactly is it better? How is taking $2 to $4 trillion out of SS to implement privatization into the highly questionable stock market going to give future retirees optimal return? Under Bush's plan, disability benefits will completely disappear. Without SS to supplement your retirement, will you be okay? I was just reading that United Airlines retirees were double slammed. Their stock in the company is or is soon to become worthless. Their pensions have been cut. Those folks were completely blindsided by this. Do you think you're exempt from benefits cuts? As for Bush's assurance that current SS recipients and those 55 and older won't be affected - HA. I can easily imagine the outrage younger folks will have wrt paying benefits to older people. SS will crash and burn if that idiot in the WH gets his way.

DavesM - are you happy with this: U.S. pays for care of illegal aliens Treatment money for border states

By ROBERT PEAR
THE NEW YORK TIMES -- The Bush administration said yesterday that it would start paying hospitals and doctors for providing emergency care to illegal immigrants. (What about providing healthcare for 45 million AMERICANS!)

The money, totaling $1 billion, will be available for services provided from today through September 2008. Congress provided the money as part of the 2003 law that expanded Medicare to cover prescription drugs, but the new payments have nothing to do with the Medicare program.
