I wouldn't mind property taxes being adjusted according to the size of the family either. If I have to pay to raise someone else's kids I ought to at least be able to slap 'em upside the head when they throw a rock at my dog!

A large part of the cost of new schools is hiring the necessary incompetent teachers, who have been educated by the previous generation of incompetents; You need to go back a few generations to find a majority of teachers dedicated AND competent.

Big noise in the papers a few days ago; some rating service said our county, Washoe in Nevada, had 5 of the 1000 top ranked schools in the entire country. I wonder if they took the scores of the 5 schools, added them together and then divided the total by 4 to get the average of the 5 schools.

One of the complaints I had while in grade school and high school was math teachers that could not write a simple complete sentence for a word problem, as with subject, verb and object, and English teachers with no concept of add, subtract, multiply and divide and how to use them to compose an essay question about a math situation. A few teachers, however, have learned how to teach sex education by example.
Where were they when I was in school? Our sex education class was called "Senior Health Class". The boys were told about a hundred times that "The penis is not a muscle and does not have to be exercised". Ahhh, School Days, School Days. Good old golden rule days. Our golden rule was the yardstick that the teacher used to whack the unruly kids.
