I fell out of love with wood heat when I lived in Vermont and realized how many times I handled each individual log - in the woods to cut it down/up, to the truck, off the truck into the driveway, to the back of the house where it was stacked, into the house next to the stove, into the stove.

I have a fireplace now in the living room, and use it for ambience. The one in the family room is a gas burner.

I have a gas fireplace now too. I love a wood fire, but the rest of my life competes for time. The old Earth Stove worked for a long time.

When I was on lookout, I cut my own firewood from subalpine fir, which is the world's worst firewood. It's the only thing that grew up at 7,500 feet elevation.

Ah, youth!

So what are you going to be growing, then?
