World government is a bad idea. Now if your state is taxing too much, or doing other things that you disagree with, you can go to another state. If the federal government gets really bad you can leave the country like most of Hollywood threatened to (but didn't have the honor to follow through on). You are correct that they are starting small, just like the income tax started small. Now politicians have a voracious appetite to spend. World government politicians will develop the same voracious appetite (addiction).
