Do you ever think when you kill an animal that he or she enjoyed exactly the same things about nature that you are enjoying? And that in an instant you destroyed that?

When I want to be close to nature, I pack a picnic, throw the dogs in the back of the Jeep, and hike back into the forest. Or I sit quietly by a river, or drive to the beach and plant myself in thick pampas grass and watch the waves come in. I think there are all sorts of ways to be close to nature without actually killing animals. I realize your feelings are very common--I believe ManyMoose has said pretty much the same thing.

I realize that clear cut forests regenerate fairly quickly, but why do you need to clear cut? I mean why can't you selectively harvest trees instead? Clear cutting has been linked to global warming. I also think it is a matter of degree--certainly it is more upsetting to see vast clear cutting in the rain forests than it is to hear about a farmer clearing a couple of acres of trees.
