All life may involve death, but intent is important to me. To still a beating heart for pleasure seems wrong. It is true that people have always hunted, but the early hunters were killing to sustain themselves. It is now very clear from science and medicine that meat is not a necessary food for humans, and there is plenty of other healthy food available.

There are several ways to keep populations of wild animals in check. Hunting is only one of them.

The information on clear cutting was interesting. I still believe that it should be avoided if there is any workable alternative on old growth forests and in areas where erosion/mudslides are a factor. Even if clear cutting is a logical choice looking at the factors you refer to, I think it is also important to remember that the planet needs its forest cover and that large scale clear cutting causes global warming.
