In a nutshell what the 17th amendment did was corrupt the system by requiring today's Senators to RUN for election by being forced to run on corrupting donations whereas the pre-1913 system, the elections didn't exist.

Those who argue, yea but the 17th amendment finally allowed the people of the states to be represented. Wrong. The Senators actually represent those who funded their re-election bids. The voters are wowed by a bunch of lies spouted from the mouths of Senators about what they believe, while often voting entirely differently. What voter actually checks to see how their representatives voted? Almost none. Voters elect on the deceptions they hear and see instead. State legislatures however, check these votes and are not swayed by a bunch of political rhetoric in front of a press conference or press releases.
