It is somewhat confusing--I agree. Clear-cut hillsides are significantly warmer than forests, is one thing it says. The deforestation, mostly near the equator, is caused by clear cutting, is it not?

I would imagine it takes a very long time to produce growth equivalent to the forest that was clear cut. The growth after five years is really only beginning.
