True, but the dependence on oil doesn't disappear overnight. A long term energy policy would be nice.

Literally everyone I know wants to buy a hybrid and none are available.

Can't vouch for the validity.....but I heard that the reason so few hybrids are sent here by Japan is that they cost far more to build than what they sell for. It's still a loss leader to gain mind share. My guess is that Detroit will have them as soon as the cost to build them comes down. How much premium would you be willing to pay over say a $20K Honda Civic (36mpg) for a hybrid (48mpg)? I guess it's just economics.
