The tax cuts did exactly what was intended. Yes, most economists may have felt that the tax cuts were poorly suited, most thought that the tax cuts would not be used by people for purchases, but to retire some debt. The fact is, that healthy consumer spending was one of the few bright spots of the recent economic slowdown, confounding the "experts" - those economists were wrong.
