KLAC KLA-Tencor: Update On Recent Checks - Smith Barney (40.24 ) Smith Barney out on KLA-Tencor noting that visibility remains limited, but business tone appears to have firmed recently after a difficult March/early April. Checks suggest orders for at least one major project (a large 300mm flash fab in Japan) have pulled back into CQ2 from CQ3. Firm is also hearing chatter in the market regarding a big layoff at KLAC. While KLAC could be faced with a big reduction in production activity if orders were to remain at current levels through the Fall, checks suggest a layoff is currently NOT in the cards. Maintains Hold.
