I think the hard part is over - I don't think about it anymore, even after meals or when people are smoking around me. But the trick is, as you have said, never to be tempted to have "just one".

I quit over 20 years ago.....my trigger seems to be alcohol....if I am out having a glass of wine after work with friends, then I will sometimes get the urge for a smoke....even after all this time....just tells you how powerful that particular adiction can be....I limit myself to an occasional cigar nowadays.....I get too much crap from the kids if I ever pick up a butt...

bill,

my brother in law started again after quitting ten years!

he was in a stress situation, and once he started again, he was back to a pack a day in no time at all...(that was over 10 years ago now, and he is still smoking)

nicotine is one addictive substance....
