Taking out a mortgage to buy stocks isn't as crazy as it sounds

ild,

Wow, this is surprising in that Stockman just gave a big speech to the troops about a month or so ago. Stockman was rumored to have access to the deep pockets to keep C&A in the game while they restructured (meaning fired more people and sold off whatever they could).

And there is another name in there that should strike fear into the hearts of all those still employed at C&A. That name is Chuck Becker, and I fear even typing it in this post. Becker is like the cat trapped on the second floor of a burning building. Somehow that cat survives, while the rest of his family burns. Becker is the guy who sold about 20 of his plants to JCI in the mid-90's (during the great, "I am the Biggest Tier One Supplier Land War" between Lear, JCI, Magna, and the rest) only to buy about 10 of them back a couple of years later for pennies on the dollar. I have lost many a good engineer to Becker over the years, as Becker promises 10-15% more pay now. The trouble is (and these bonehead engineers have to live it first to learn it) is that Becker is going to actually pay you less on an hourly basis. They all figure it out and that is why so many leave after that first year. Becker owns between 11-13% of C&A and I would bet the farm that his new role will allow him to put more of the remaining assets in his pocket. This is not a positive for those at C&A.

P.S. I have not forgotten to post a couple of Toyota stories, but I have just been much more busy than usual.
