Pearly, an old neighbour of mine used to work at Seascale, and i once climbed Sca Fell with his brother, who worked there at the time and for years after, maybe still does ... they've got some stories, can't recall any details, beyond the screwups coming about for the silliest of reasons

One time the brother and i were sitting in a car waiting for somebody, and watching guys do repairs on the old working class housing in Workington, or Maryport, one of the two ... i recall wondering, how could the industrial revolution have possibly started here, with people who not only didn't want to work, but didn't know how, and refused to learn ... having come from a stay in Geordieland, where things i saw went much more snappy, the difference was striking .... no doubt this was a result of seeing what wasn't completely representative of either, but it sure left an impression
