You and I have had this debate about Sunnis before. Sunnis are not the most secular Muslims in the world. They are the most fanatic. Almost all of today's terrorism comes from Sunni Muslims of the Wahabbi sect. Sunni's are fundamentalists with the more extremist sects being very anti-modernization.

You have to look no further than Iraq and Iran to see that the Shias are pluralist. Even in Iran, women get to hold office. In the emerging Iraq gov't they get to hold office as well. Shias have no problem working with Kurds and Sunnis, but Iraqi Sunnis have a big problem working with anyone unless they are subservient to themselves.

As far as Iraqis fighting for their freedom, they are doing it every day. They fought a silent struggle just to walk to the polls to vote, even though it might cost them their lives. They do it every day when they walk to work in jobs ennabled by the coalition. They do it every day when their leaders brave assissination just because they are in a command post within the new government. In addition, the police and Iraqi security forces are taking the lead on most action with insurgents, with American advisors in tail.

They are fighting for their freedom, but the insurgents aren't cowards and they certainly don't give up easily. So they will have to be crushed systematically until they are all dead or captured and that takes a long time. It would be quicker to round up all Sunnis and put them in jail, but that wouldn't be P.C., would it?
