stockman-

i agree that the mainstream media is more "entertainment
and sensationalist" oriented than "news and fact" focused
but i've known that since i was about ten years old. it's
why i work in the "people's media" that provides live,
unedited video coverage of government officials at work
instead of the corporate, profit-driven commercial media
whose major objective is to attract more eyeballs for
sponsors' advertisements (while also supporting and
promoting the values of said sponsors).

the reason that this "smoking gun memo" story is not
front page "news" is that every reasonable and concerned
adult in the world already knows the facts of its
contents. literally millions of people have already
heard countless credible witnesses and highly informed
individuals from scott ritter to paul o'niell to richard
and ramsey clark to howard dean proclaim these exact facts
and many more even to the point of explaining the real
motives behind this rally to an unlawful, murderous "war"
against the iraqi regime since long before the military
assault ever began.

if i email this to everyone i know, the vast majority
are going to yawn and say, "duh? what else is new? i've
known all this since day one. the information was always
there, and i've been sharing it myself. this is just one
more iteration from one more source."

half the remaining minority is going to rationalize that
there must have been some "classified" information that
could not be released publicly about a clear and present
danger to america. they'll believe that their safety and
the safety of the world was at risk and that the ends
justified the means to protect our country and the future
of democracy. they'll believe that it's their patriotic
duty to support the actions of their commander in chief
(support the troops?) who certainly has much more
secret intelligence than they do about threats and
dangers to this country.

the other half of the remaining minority is going to
dismiss the content on the grounds that they "don't do"
politics... they have representatives who do that job
and they are busy with tasks in their lives on a much
more localized and personal level (like earning a living
or bowling, gardening, sayling, golfing or taking care
of a sick relative). if you have a dog, a cat, a pony
or a rhododendron you will notice, if you observe closely,
that they fall into this third category. <VBG>

i honor and respect your diligence in keeping the truth
and discriminant, questioning, thought alive by spreading
it as widely as the power of your "copy and paste" pen
allows. kudos to you!

as for me, rather than forwarding another redundant
email to everyone i know, maybe i just have to be content
with my full time job providing video surveillance of "big
brother" and posting a few original editorials on the
internet as my contribution to the information pool...
while trusting the populace to use their own inner sense
of karma and conscience to guide their personal education
efforts, help formulate their voting decisions and direct
any social action activities they may be moved to
participate in.

meanwhile, i'm going sayling with my pony on my boat.

ahhhhh... life... it's my favorite thing.

love,
