To: stockman_scott who wrote (43465 ) 5/14/2005 3:46:06 PM From: elpolvo Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 104164 stockman- i agree that the mainstream media is more "entertainment and sensationalist" oriented than "news and fact" focused but i've known that since i was about ten years old. it's why i work in the "people's media" that provides live, unedited video coverage of government officials at work instead of the corporate, profit-driven commercial media whose major objective is to attract more eyeballs for sponsors' advertisements (while also supporting and promoting the values of said sponsors). the reason that this "smoking gun memo" story is not front page "news" is that every reasonable and concerned adult in the world already knows the facts of its contents. literally millions of people have already heard countless credible witnesses and highly informed individuals from scott ritter to paul o'niell to richard and ramsey clark to howard dean proclaim these exact facts and many more even to the point of explaining the real motives behind this rally to an unlawful, murderous "war" against the iraqi regime since long before the military assault ever began. if i email this to everyone i know, the vast majority are going to yawn and say, "duh? what else is new? i've known all this since day one. the information was always there, and i've been sharing it myself. this is just one more iteration from one more source." half the remaining minority is going to rationalize that there must have been some "classified" information that could not be released publicly about a clear and present danger to america. they'll believe that their safety and the safety of the world was at risk and that the ends justified the means to protect our country and the future of democracy. they'll believe that it's their patriotic duty to support the actions of their commander in chief (support the troops?) who certainly has much more secret intelligence than they do about threats and dangers to this country. the other half of the remaining minority is going to dismiss the content on the grounds that they "don't do" politics... they have representatives who do that job and they are busy with tasks in their lives on a much more localized and personal level (like earning a living or bowling, gardening, sayling, golfing or taking care of a sick relative). if you have a dog, a cat, a pony or a rhododendron you will notice, if you observe closely, that they fall into this third category. <VBG> i honor and respect your diligence in keeping the truth and discriminant, questioning, thought alive by spreading it as widely as the power of your "copy and paste" pen allows. kudos to you! as for me, rather than forwarding another redundant email to everyone i know, maybe i just have to be content with my full time job providing video surveillance of "big brother" and posting a few original editorials on the internet as my contribution to the information pool... while trusting the populace to use their own inner sense of karma and conscience to guide their personal education efforts, help formulate their voting decisions and direct any social action activities they may be moved to participate in. meanwhile, i'm going sayling with my pony on my boat. ahhhhh... life... it's my favorite thing. love, polvie@leaningtowardcategory3.dis-org
