Those Americans who are in shock that the American system could have been successfully hijacked, with civil liberties removed, and a facade that gets out the vote, behind which the real workings take place. The agenda is known (ie dealing with the axis of evil, gov't getting out of risky business like Medicaid and Social Security) and held with a sense of disbelief. People don't know what to do. In comparison to Canada, though, matters in the US are quite orderly. On Monday in Canadian Parliament, Harper (the leader of the Opposition), made a one hour speech and then voted to dissolve (the minority gov't). This is known as a vote of no confidence. Amazingly, the Liberals (who head the minority gov't) voted in favor. Then, PM Martin said it was not a vote of no-confidence. He failed to say what it was, though. On Tuesday members of Parliament convened again, Harper proposed the vote, the Liberals again voted in favor, again Martin said it was not a vote of non-confidence. Then, it happened a third time.theglobeandmail.com The Conservatives and the Bloc Québécois combined to adjourn the House again yesterday -- for the third day in a row -- in a bid to pressure the Liberals into an immediate confidence vote. But Conservative Leader Stephen Harper conceded afterward that his push for a Monday vote had failed. CALGARY -- Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, who has long had a fractious relationship with the federal Liberal government, called on Prime Minister Paul Martin yesterday to quit and immediately call an election.theglobeandmail.com TJ, Canada has no gov't. Nothing is getting done, committees are all out having lunch. No surprise the Loonie tanked and continues to do so. Next week will be ugly. At least if Martin agrees to a non-confidence vote where he will accept the outcome, there may be progress, the slide of the Lonie will stop, but my bet is there is another stalling tactic right around the corner. By the way, do you think we're close to shorting PM Puts? D
