If you really want to know, at the beginning of the Iraq conflict, I felt ambivalent about the whole business. I see now that, although costly both in dollar and casualty terms, it was the right thing to do. In spite of the carnage perpetrated by the terrorist nutballs, an election was held, the majority of the populace supports the concept of elected government, support for the terrorists is waning (thanks to those idiots killing and maiming their own people, fellow muslims), and Iraq has become a linchpin for political reform throughout the Middle East. I would agree that the search for WMD's was a rather feeble reason for our involvement there. And the fact that Hussein was a blood thirsty tyrant of the worst sort wasn't reason in itself either..Why did energy prices start spiking the week after Bush-Cheney were nominated, only stopping during the period the Dems held subpoena powers after the Jeffords party switch? Why has Bush gone so easy on Saudi Arabia, the #1 source of terror, yet why has he never jawboned them to bring down oil prices as he promised in 2000? And why no OBL? Oil is indeed the major issue. Prices are high because demand has caught up to maximum existing supply capacity. Stability in the Middle East is key to maintaining that vital flow. But even under the best of circumstances there, it's only postponing the inevitable for a short time. Too many people seem to believe that cheap oil will flow forever, even in the face of idiotic constraints on exploration, production and refining that exists here. And railing and blaming guzzling SUV's and such nonsense deflects awareness from the real problems that are looming. If this sort of thingpeakoil.org lifeaftertheoilcrash.net doesn't scare the crap out of you, you've got a major "ostrich in the sand" problem. Although the above and similar sites have a leftist, gloom and doom tilt to them, facts are facts. Unless those "evil oil corporations", as you call them, get to work and develop the shale, tar sand and coal resources that we have in abundance that can be refined into crude products, and do so in a hurry, the whole world will be facing an economic crisis of unprecedented proportions. 8 or 10 dollar a gallon gas will be the least thing to worry about. In addition to immediately starting to work on utilizing the above raw materials, we need a crash program to build many more nuclear electric plants. Whether you or the eco freaks like it or not, the world runs on petroleum, and without developing and maintaining adequate supplies, the sh!t will hit the fan. It's going to, soon. And when houses grow cold and food is in short supply, no one will give a rats ass about Kyoto or ANWAR or any touchy feelie greenie so called alternatives. Government bureaucrats won't save you, only the "evil corporations" have that capability. You'd better hope they're encouraged to do so before it's too late...Why does Bush appoint people like Bolton to head organizations which they despise and would like to bring down? The UN is a cesspool of corruption and an ass kicker like Bolton is just what's needed there..Why was gay escort Jeff Gannon let into the WH 197 times and allowed to ask the presdient softball questions? Who gives a damn? There's too much paranoia about sex in this country. I wouldn't even care if the president was a gay or lesbian, as long as he/she was a competent person for the job..Why does every Karl Rove campaign seem to include a 100% false smear campaign by a lightly disguised separate arm of the campaign as well as multiple dirty tricks right out of a CIA handbook? Get over the sore loser thing. Politics is a filthy game and both parties wallow in it up to their eyeballs. Your Kerry boy is no shining knight, even though you imagine it in your lurid fantasies..
