TJ made great trading calls on the gold miners and earned plenty of profits. But a couple years ago he asked the rhetorical question: "What happens if oil goes to $100/barrel?" My answer is that the gold miners will go broke! Look how the price of NEM is crashing compared to the price of gold...

If the trend of higher energy costs continues, then more of the gold demand will be met by gold coming out of storage instead of being mined. Jay was smart to dump his miners but keep his physical gold.

Well, it's been a week. Let's see how NEM did vs. QCOM and some of Jay's other favorite targets of disparagement. Hmmm, over the past five days NEM got soundly thrashed by QCOM, JPM, GE, and TOL... <g>
