I have more than a few liberal friends who are embarrassed and annoyed by their new "governor." Especially regarding the new 26 B tax bill and gas tax.

I don't even have to tell you how I feel. I can't wait till May 23....although I have this feeling it won't get us anywhere.

Gas Tax Blowback

Some of the state's politicians are now beginning to realize that they went too far in raising the gas tax and other taxes: "Gas-tax blues: Lawmakers worry about blowback"

Lawmakers concede that their constituents are hopping mad, particularly with gas prices already through the roof. They fear the biggest tax vote in state history will come back to haunt Gov. former Attorney General Christine Gregoire and other backers in the next election.
...
Gregoire and backers from both parties concede they're worried about the possible fallout, but are unapologetic about the vote and say they're ready to defend the bold package -- and themselves -- to the voters.

"It was leadership," says the rookie governor former Attorney General, who may face a revote this year or next. "I do think we're being visionary in the state of Washington."

Visionary? Try hallucinatory:
Even though her own position is precarious, a pugnacious Gregoire has publicly defended the vote and signaled that she'll campaign for those who are targeted.

"I'm prepared to stand up with every one of them," she says.

It's hard to imagine that very many legislators in swing districts would even want the former Attorney General, who is both unloved and perceived as illegitimate, to get anywhere near their districts during the next campaign. But let's hope she shows up anyway.
