For example, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant Staff Team Leader, Office Manager etc. seems to the rage of late.

My experience before I retired was that the work was being done primarily by professionals and an adjunct to their normal duties, for the most part. For example, they typed their work into their computers and became quite proficient in producing a professional looking finished product rather than giving it to a secretary. The only thing left for secretaries to do was time cards, and that was often farmed out as well. The Office-Manager gimmick was tried but somehow never took hold. Perhaps it did in some places.

Whether the professionals are doing the secretarial work or the secretaries are doing it under a fancier title (and higher pay grad), in either case the work is being done by someone who can better afford a car so the call for keeping work around Metro stops is not as effective.
