what do they mean by the word "read"?

Something along the lines of "fish through the paper for the bits they like (sports section, mostly) and throw away the rest."

I don't read any newspaper daily, nor yet weekly. I do skim the headlines of the online WashPost and NYTimes every day, and read the tidbits that capture my attention. I do read the weekly cooking section and the weekly gardening section from cover to cover, and the movie reviews.

I bet they'd classify me as "reads two newspapers daily."

Sell more ads that way.

USA Today?

Yes, it does. And by "read" they mean "buy the paper."
