Newsweek didn't sit on the Clinton/Lewinski story as a favor to Clinton at all. Can you explain why a reporter would go to extreme lengths to dig and dig and write such a story, just to throw it away essentially? Does that make any actual, logical sense to you?

What happened is that Newsweek was about to break the story, but the editors, ironically, wanted to do a bit more fact checking, and Drudge beat them to it. Newsweek was extremely critical of Clinton and his behavior when they did publish the story, as well.
