Two Saudi Shura members back calls to allow women to drive

Riyadh: Two members of the Saudi Shura Council have called, in statements published yesterday, for Saudi women to be allowed to drive.

Religious scholars issued fatwas (religious edicts) with some saying it is sinful for women to drive and that such acts would open the door to corruption and destruction of family values.

And the driving age is proposed to be 40!

Dr. Al Zulfa proposed the age for women drivers to be fixed at 40 saying the penalties stipulated in the law should act as a deterrent for those trying to harm women.
