The info came from an impeccable source according to Newsweek.

That's rubbish, Michael. They had a rumor that came from one of two dissident sources. The Al Qaeda manual tells prisoners to fabricate lies about their captors because they know the western press will pick it up.

This happened for the same reason that Rathergate happened. Liberal reporters who were out to get the administration jumped on a rumor that was too good to check fully.

Even they knew it was only a rumor, or they would have given it better space than their "periscope" column, which they use for rumors.

"The following is quoted directly from The al Qaeda Training Manual, Lesson Eighteen, PRISONS AND DETENTION CENTERS, which was seized in a raid in England by the Manchester Metropolitan Police:

1 . At the beginning of the trial, once more the brothers must insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by State Security [investigators] before the judge.

2. Complain [to the court] of mistreatment while in prison."

Drop the last three words and you have a near direct quote from Dan Rather about his BS.

I believe dannyboy used the words unimpeachable source.

The prolific liars always have a second lie ready to try to cover up the first. Clinton did it when he waggled his finger at us on tv. Kerry did it nearly everyday. CNN and TIME did it with the Tailwind story. CBS did it. And now Newsweek.

It seems to be such a normal and embedded left wing trait, I'm not sure why we are still surprised.
