AMAT Applied Materials should provide few surprises when it reports tonight -- SG Cowen (16.07 )

SG Cowen expects few surprises when AMAT reports Q2 (Apr) tonight. Firm expects the co to hit or slightly exceed rev and EPS expectations on orders down 5-10%. Firm believes the co will sound much like its peers: visibility remains very limited, memory order patterns look incrementally a bit weaker and foundries remain very quiet. Firm speculatively expects flattish Q3 (July) guidance with a dose of guarded optimism about rest of the calendar year. Firm believes Q4 (Sept) (for industry) appears less and less likely to show a meaningful order rebound and believes it feels more like CQ4 especially given softening memory sector.
