I've been thinking for years that it's interesting that the good guys in Star Wars have been fighting against an evil empire for 25 years, even as the US has become more and more of an empire. I don't see why we couldn't be a "good" empire. We can take out all the evil dictators and help all the oppressed peoples of the world. We can do good for ourselves while doing good for the world. I don't think that is incompatible. But, I don't see us going in that direction. There are too many people like many that contribute on this thread, that want to protect all the killers and deviants that do their evil in our name. When evil is suspected, we try to hush things up and deny they can exist. On the contrary, I think we have to root out evil in our own house first. Uncover all the deviants in our society and limit their behaviour in our name. To hush things up and deny their existence is the wrong way to go.
