I should have added them:

re: "Sounds more like the admin and the industrialists."

Plus about 95% of our society. <ng>. Along these lines, we have had curbside recycling for 6-8 years and I would guess, there is about 25-30% that still don't do it. And not all those non-doers are camo-wearing rednecks either, but some are though.. <g>.

re: ".. so we are all touchy feeley and song singing, and making plans to make plans to put something on paper..."

I guess that was the point, I was making.. There seemed to be a lot of "Bull in" for the amount of "Sheet out" in his write up.. <g>. Not too efficient, IMO.. <g>

re "..So Rat got pissed off and called a solar contractor who should show up, and will start making things, instead of words, happen..."

GOOOOOOOO RATSSSSSSSSS..

Came back here and the name has changed.
Must have just happened, no?

I dunno about the "scientist" thing either.

Speaking just from what I know about the field
biologist people...and I hang out with a few...
i sort of have to wonder how much of an impact
fuel shortages, etc... will have on some of them,
which might be why there is an odd lack of emergency
(or urgency)
among some scientists -- or at least that group.

Most that i know barely bother to drive much...
spend a lot of time walking around though...as in "a lot".
Many know what wild things you can eat and the thriftiest
ones just pick big heaps of things like lamb's quarters, etc...
instead of planting a garden.
Clothes? I think most are wearing the same beat-up and
patched khaki or green work pants they've been wearing
since they got out of university. T-shirts look in
about the same condition.
They don't watch television, but do listen to the radio...
and have those wind-up jobbies so that they don't need
batteries when they are away in the field.
Most seem to like reading... older stuff... and poetry..
and like making their own entertainment.

Their world view is kind of different too,
and that's probably significant.
I wouln't say they don't like mankind,
but just that quite a few see the past, present and future
in an evolutionary sense, and that maybe mankind
is destined to join the Dodo bird.. maybe sooner than later.

Uhm.. anyhow...
imo.. and this is jmho,
the biggest stumbling blocks to making progress in
alternative energy, fuels, waste reduction, etc...
are more related to the whole big monster that is
industry~advertising~media~corporations~government.
If people stop spending money, and start reusing,
recycling, wandering around home instead of travelling,
not driving, not watching television, not buying processed foods..
and instead, learn to amuse themselves like they once did
-- through going for walks, spending time with friends and family,
observing nature, learning to sit still and just think more,
grow their own food or learn to eat what grows wild in
relative abundance right in their own backyards,
don't buy junk just because they saw it on tv and it
made them want one...
Well, i think the crisis might actually be averted...

But that ain't gonna happen.
Most people have already bitten into the apple
and now they can't stop.
They want to keep going until it's all gone.
