Climate and weather sure do have plenty
to do with whether a thing will work in one place
and not in another.

Up here... in the frozen north,
solar will probably only ever be a seasonal alternative.
I suppose it might be possible to glean some power in winter,
but the days are kind of short.
Wind is a definitely possibility,
and I've seen some pretty neat very small-scale
hydro power stuff -- as in ridiculously small,
so also a possibility in some cases.
Wood is popular up around where I am, and pretty much
renewable and sustainable,
but I do worry about the air pollution from it.

I do think that viable ideas will come along,
but people have to feel motivated
and also not discouraged by those who will criticize.
It would help to do more brainstorming... as was
done during the last oil crisis (a friend up here worked
for a government dept. that brought together a
group of engineers to work on energy for agricultural applications
and they came up with some pretty kewl stuff back then...
but most of the projects got canned with the oil price
dropped and the supply was supposedly good again).

Well, it's been cool and sort of cloudy and crappy here
for weeks now. This coming weekend is the traditional
"planting weekend" for vegetable gardens up here.
I dunno if I'm gonna bite. May wait another week
for things to warm up a bit more.
Got tons of containers of plants sitting out on my
sunny back porch == sort of outgrowing their containers,
but maybe they're better off staying indoors for a
few more days.
