This is already a really great thread. It's all the better for having a moderator who keeps the level of acrimony and nasty inter-thread (and intra-thread) creepiness to a minimum. Not everyone appreciates that though, and for people who don't, there are other threads where name calling, and cattiness, and carping, and ridiculing other posters is all allowed. There's something for everyone on SI- maybe this thread just isn't going to be to your taste.

I'm not really interested in opinions that are not expressed reasonably politely, and I think it's unfair to discuss banned posters in specific. If someone wanted to read all the posts from fall of 2004 to now they could probably see why the people on the banned list are on it, or maybe not! I don't really care. Why would I bother to give this the time and effort that moderating a thread takes if it is not reasonably enjoyable to spend my time that way? I love debating ideas, but not with people whose intent is simply malicious. There are certainly lots of moderated threads representing every political/personal persuasion imaginable, and people on the left and the right are banned from them for totally whimsical reasons all the time. There are plenty of conservatives here--it's not someone's political point of view that causes anyone to be banned, but a bunch of unpleasant, sort of "drive by" posts will do it. Anyone can post here if they are polite and follow all the thread rules. If not, sorry. There are so many threads at SI! Perhaps there are others where you'd be happier.
