You mean the left over "flower children?" The ones who couldn't fit into San Francisco?

I think you are correct, M~ Many of the old pioneers of WA and OR too were seeking a new land, where they could have both land and beauty in their surroundings...Lewis and Clark in the very early 1800's opened a whole new territory...the gold rush for both SFO and AK in mid-century opened the country further...and then the settlers came in droves in the 1850's-1870's, filled with hope for both freedom and land.

I too, think it was the 60's, after Kennedy was killed, that so many of the young made a left turn, and kept going left.

Many flower children romanticized Stalin and Lenin and Marx...and continue to do so....these folks never grew up, but continue to have their hand out for others to support them. They believed Timothy O'Leary, and continued as he did believing illegal drugs would help them ....

I personally believe that the states where there are socialist type welfare programs are where these folks have now made their home. They come from all over the US to the areas where they can live and have others pay their bills...

Why work when they can get others to support them and their bad habits is their motto....
