re: Regarding diesel, specifically biodiesel, can anyone explain...

No, I think it's remarkable. The diesels in the 70's and 80's were clunky and slow, and often hard to start in cold weather. But that's changed. I don't know why the US hasn't adopted diesels, except with our cheap fuel it wasn't an imperative.

The biodiesel stuff is impressive. People are making it themselves for $0.60 - $0.70 a gallon. Just one of many solutions that are out there waiting to be implemented on a broader scale.

[EDIT - Then there is this from the article: "No photo-op can hide the fact that the Bush energy plan gives 90% of its tax breaks to big oil and gas and other fossil fuels, and less than 10% to alternative sources of energy," said Sen. Maria Cantwell (news, bio, voting record) (D-Wash.). "That's an 18th century strategy, not a 21st century plan."]

Tenchusatsu,

it may just be me, but does our govt really think a terrorist or terrorists are going to board an airplane, using names and passports of people that are on the no-fly list?
