Hi Electra,

I found I usually just don't have time to follow a lot of stocks properly. And there's something to be said for becoming familiar with a particular stock or index's "personality."

Options requires special effort and knowledge. I have traded them in the past, and sometimes still do, but they are not straightforward and if you are not seasoned, it is better to paper trade them for a while first (preferably a long while!).

So I trade a few stocks, but I don't try to watch very many things anymore except QQQQ. That's enough. There is an advantage to a vehicle like QQQQ also: you have little risk of huge unexpected moves against you based on company-specific news. And QQQQ is highly liquid and the market is very efficient---spreads are rarely more than $0.01 for very long. And QQQQ can be readily traded in almost all accounts including retirement accounts, since you can go long or short via the underlying, options, or mutual funds, take your pick.
