Hersh Sees Democracy in Peril in US

There's an argument that Hersh is a bit late in his time frame. Consider that number of Americans who could vote vs. the number of Americans that do vote. "Could vote" being the pool of unregistered voters and registered voters who don't bother to vote. [Particularly in mid-term elections.] Throw on top of that all the conservatives that think that our Representatives are not required to represent the will of the people, but rather do what they think is in the best interests of the people. You'll see them occasionally emphasize "Republic" in the phrase, Democratic Republic. A single illustration of the point. The majority of Americans wanted the assault weapons ban extended. The House wouldn't even bring it to a vote [handy that there wouldn't be a record of a vote.]

The challenge may be to figure out when democracy in America died.
