>Does this article convince you for some reason that the Iraqi civil defense force with coalition support will be unable to neutralize the insurgent killer groups??

Do you have any signs that the civil defense force is capable of anything? So far, we've found out that they're just a fraction in number of what our government officials claimed, that many of them desert their posts when confronted with danger or simply switch to the other side, that they're riddled with spies, and that they're getting kidnapped and blown up in great numbers, especially at recruitment centers.

Doesn't sound to me like they'll be able to succeed where 150,000 of our troops have not.

This and 1000 others.

Elroy, either you are not paying attention, or you are married to your position. These guys are not just doing roadside bombs, they are assassinating leading clerics, generals and top politicians. They are using sophisticated tactics, including creating diversions and attacking responders. They are very well funded and well armed, and they are the remnants of Saddam's Ba'ath Party, the people at the top of the previous government. They are not going to give up and they are not going to fold into the new government.

re: All of that reads like smart management setting low expectations...

Right. It sounds to me like a bunch of military guys trying to gently project a bit of the dire reality.

All of that reads like smart management setting low expectations that can be beaten - nothing concrete in that article other than a count of car bombs per month. Car bombs can't lead a population, and don't garner support.

``It's much more likely to succeed, but it could still fail.''

So?

Your article reads like a discussion of "concerns" about Iraq, where the "good part" was left out and the "bad part" alone was dwelt on.

Read the article again. You have been given the truth for a change. Don't blow it!
