Brazil Apr 12Mo Curr Acct Surplus $14.23B, 2.21% Of GDP

BRASILIA (Dow Jones)--The central bank said Thursday that Brazil posted a current account surplus of $14.23 billion, or the equivalent of 2.21% of gross domestic product, in the 12 months ended April.

For the month of April, Brazil posted a surplus of $757 billion, reversing a current account deficit of $764 million reported one year earlier.

The Central Bank attributed the turnaround to hefty foreign investment, as well as the continuing strong trade surplus.

Foreign direct investment reached $3.04 billion in April, up from $1.4 million in March. That brought the year-to-date total to $6.53 billion. The bank maintained its forecast for foreign investment of $16 billion this year.

The result was "well above the average," the bank said.
